WordPress 5.3 “Kirk” Released — How to Install | Upgrade on Ubuntu 18.04 | 16.04

WordPress 5.3 “Kirk”, named in honor American jazz musician Rahsaan Roland Kirk is now Available to download to install or upgrade existing sites..

This release comes with many features, including a new default theme (Twenty Twenty), user interface improvements, new block editor features and a new requirement to have PHP native JSON extension for any site running WordPress 5.3 or later…

WordPress administrators should be able to download the latest version or via update link in the site’s admin dashboard…

Following the major 5.0 and up to 5.2,  this release also introduced many new block editor  features, as well as improvements to the block editor interface, the underlying JavaScript module and others…For more about this release, please check the release page from here

  • Full support for PHP 7.4
  • PHP Native JSON Extension Now Required
  • New Block APIs in WordPress 5.3
  • Site Admin Email Verification

Upgrading WordPress

If your sites are not configured to automatically upgrade, then go over to WordPress Dashboard → Updates and click “Update Now.” Sites that support automatic background updates are already beginning to update automatically.
