In previous version of Windows, one would easily create startup programs by going to msconfig page and adding the programs there. How do you do it in Windows 10 now that msconfig isn’t available?
This brief tutorial shows students an easy way to create startup programs in Windows 10.
Windows allows programs to automatically install themselves in Windows startup configuration settings. For programs that are designed to startup automatically, there’s nothing to do. They will automatically start up everytime Windows starts.
Now, how do you start a program automatically that wasn’t designed to startup everytime Windows starts? This short guide is going to show you an easy way to do it.. and should probably work with all Windows programs and applications.
Step 1: Find where programs are installed
An easy way to auto start a program is to create a shortcut of the program in Windows Startup folder. You must know where the program you wish to start up is installed. To find out that information, right-click the program Icon or executable and select Properties.
On the Shortcut tab, take notes of the program’s start in folder. Or click the button to Open File Location of the program.. and this is how you find what’s the program’s home folder. It will also be where the program executable lives.
Step 2: Configuring programs to auto start
After you’ve discovered where the program you wish to start up automatically lives, continue below to learn how to start the program up automatically.
First, open Windows Run command box. Or type the Windows logo Key and R on your keyboard. This will open Windows command run box.
In the box, type this command in the box and press Enter.
When you press Enter, it will open Windows program startup folder for your account. From there, right-click a blank area and select New –> Shortcut
Now browse to the program home folder.. the one you found using the step above and select the programs’ executable file.
Continue with the wizard until you’re done.
Everytime you logon to Windows computer, this program will automatically open up.
That’s it! Enjoy!
