Resize / Relocate Ubuntu Dock ( Launcher ) on Ubuntu 18.04 / 18.10 Desktops

This brief tutorial shows students and new users how to resize or relocate Ubuntu launcher also known as dock when using Ubuntu 18.04 or 18.10 desktop. Using the steps below, you’ll be able to change the launcher location from its default left corner to the right or bottom.

Ubuntu dock is the bar docked on the left of your screen below the Activities menu. On the left of the overview, you will find the dash or launcher. The dash shows you your favorite and running applications. Click the icon on the dash to open the application and if the application is already running, it will highlight it.

You can also drag and move icons around on the dash easily.

When you right-click an application icon on the dash, it shows you more options of the app. To access your windows or running applications, click the Activities menu at the top right corner.

Configuring Ubuntu Dock / Dash

To adjust, relocate or resize Ubuntu dash, click the System Settings Menu as shown in the image below

Then on the items menu on the left, select Dock

This is where one adjusts or resizes the dock or dash. You can move the button to the right of the Auto-hide the Dock option and it should automatically hide it. By default the size of the dock is set at 48. If that’s too big for your screen, you can reduce it by moving the slider to the left.

To increase, move to the right.

To change the dock position on the screen,  select to option for Position on-screen. It can be move to the right or bottom.

Then changes are instant. so when you move the slider or tick the button the changes the settings, those changes are applied immediately.

Switch back to the desktop to view changes made.

  1. I updated my ubuntu from 16.04 to 18.04. I cant find any options in the Dock panel. It’s totally empty.
    Do you know how to fix it?
