How to Install LibreOffice on Ubuntu Linux

This post shows students and new users steps to install LibreOffice in Ubuntu Linux. LibreOffice is a free and open source office productivity software typically installed on Linux systems.

LibreOffice is a successor to OpenOffice.org (commonly known as OpenOffice) on most Linux distributions. In fact, LibreOffice was forked from OpenOffice over a decade ago. It is now the supreme open source office productivity tool available for Windows, MacOS and Linux systems.

LibreOffice comes with several applications including, Writer (word processing), Calc (spreadsheets), Impress (presentations), Draw (vector graphics and flowcharts), Base (databases), and Math (formula editing).

By default, if you install the full desktop version of Ubuntu, LibreOffice will come along. You don’t need to do anything to get it. However, if you don’t have LibreOffice installed and you want it in Ubuntu, the steps below will show you how to do that.

How to Hide or Unhide the Search Box in Windows 11

This post shows students and new users steps to hide or unhide the Search box on the Taskbar in Windows 11. Windows lets you choose whether the search box shows on your taskbar or not.

If you don’t see a search box on your taskbar, it’s hidden and you can make it visible again.

Windows Search is a built-in feature that allows you to search for documents, apps settings from a particular folder or the entire PC. Windows Search service indexes content for faster results when searching for files and other content from defined locations.

Window Search is important if you want to quickly find missing files, folders documents and settings. There are other nice Windows Search features available to users including, Search Highlights, Cloud content search, Enhanced search indexing and more.

Again, you can hide the search box from the taskbar if you don’t need all these features or unhide the search box if it’s missing.

How to Open Folder in its Own Window in Windows 11

This post shows students and new users steps to open a folder in its own window in Windows 11. By default, when you open a folder in File Explorer, the folder will open in the same File Explorer window currently open.

If you keep traversing File Explorer folders, you will continue to move to the next folder within the same window. If you need to access content in the previous folder, you’ll need to traverse back to it.

If you need multiple folders open at the same time, you’ll need to right-click on the folder and select Open in new window from the context menu.

However, Windows has a feature where you can configure File Explorer to open any new folder within its own window. You’ll always have a separate window for folders you open.

This can come in handy especially if you need to work with content in multiple windows.

How to Delete Let’s Encrypt SSL Certificates

This post shows students and new users steps to delete Let’s Encrypt certificates created using Certbot. Certbot is a command-line tool that simplifies the process for obtaining and renewing Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates.

With Certbot, one can create, renew, revoke and delete Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates easily using the command line.

By default, Let’s Encrypt will store all the client certificates in the following folders:

  • /etc/letsencrypt/live
  • /etc/letsencrypt/renewal
  • /etc/letsencrypt/archive

When a new certificate is issued, it is store in the /etc/letsencrypt/live directory. The archive folder stores copies of the live certificates.

If you no longer need a certificate or if the certificate has been compromise, you revoke and issue a new request.

How to Disable Touchpad when a Mouse is Connected in Windows 11

This post shows students and new users steps to automatically disable a laptop’s touchpad when a mouse is connected in Windows 11. Most laptop computers come with integrated touchpad that’s used as an alternative to an external mouse.

By default, when you connect a mouse to your laptop, the touchpad will also be available and active. This allows you to use either the external mouse or touchpad to perform certain actions on your computer.

However, in some cases, when you have both an external mouse and touchpad active, you may run into situations where you inadvertently move the mouse pointer simply by resting your palm on the touchpad of your device.

This might not be something you’ll want happen frequently since it can be annoying.

Windows allows you to automatically disable the touchpad when you connect an external mouse, and the steps below will show you how to do that.

How to Adjust Touchpad Sensitivity in Windows 11

This post shows students and new users steps to change or adjust a touchpad sensitivity when using Windows 11. The sensitivity on a touchpad determines how much pressure is applied for it to respond or perform certain actions.

If your device’s touchpad sensitivity is not very responsive, you may have to adjust it in Windows to suit your needs. For example, if you must tap harder to open files, folder and apps or actions to be performed, then changing the touchpad’s sensitivity might help.

If the pointer is also moving erratically on the screen when using the touchpad, you may have to adjust its sensitivity as well.

How to Add or Remove Desktop Stickers on Windows 11

This post shows students and new users steps to enable or disable desktop stickers in Windows 11. Desktop Stickers is a new feature in Windows 11 that isn’t generally available to all users just yet.

With desktop stickers, users will be able to place stickers on their desktop and remain there even if the desktop wallpaper is switched or replaced. Once stickers are added, users will be able to resize and move the stickers to other parts of their desktop.

As of now, the new stickers feature is only available to computers enrolled in Microsoft Insider Preview program, and specifically machines that have installed Windows 11 build 25162 or later.

Even with those builds, the new Stickers feature is still hidden. You’ll have to enable it via Windows registry in order to use it. Below, we’ll show you how to do that.
