Joomla 3.9 Released — Here’s How to Install / Upgrade on Ubuntu 16.04 | 18.04 | 18.10

Joomla 3.9 is now available to install or upgrade your existing Joomla sites… This release is referred to as “The Privacy Tool Suite“…. marking the tenth minor release in the 3.x series…

This release packs in more than 250 improvements… with privacy as its main focus, including setting up Joomla to automatically handle core forms to request consent before collecting any personal data, a new search feature in the backend to search for a specific article content, and many more…

If you’re running a website or blog powered by Joomla and haven’t upgraded, it’s recommended that you do so soon, if not immediately… Many security improvements and feature enhancements were added as well..

Below are some of the features and updates that apply to all previous versions of Joomla up to 3.8.x

To upgrade or install Joomla, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Upgrade Joomla

If you have an existing Joomla website, then step 1 is all you need… but before upgrading, make sure to back up your site.. That’s very important…

There are many components available to help you backup  your site…

The recommended way to update installations of Joomla! is to use the Joomla Updater component found in the Components menu of your site Administrator…

Depending on your site settings, if an update is available there will be a message indicating this and a button to press to upgrade…. Which update you’ll see depends on the setting for Update Server and caching…

The first option shows the latest update of the major release in use. The second option shows the latest update of the latest major.

Click Install the Update button to begin the installation… If everything is right, your site should successfully update to the latest version..

Step 2: Install Joomla CMS on Ubuntu
