This post shows students and new users steps to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11. If you have a valid Windows 10 computer, and your computer meets Windows 11 requirements, you should be able to upgrade to Windows 11 for free.
Upgrading to Windows 11 is pretty simple and straightforward. In fact, Windows 10 computers should now have a Microsoft PC Health Check app to check if user’s PC meets the requirements to upgrade to Windows 11.
To check if your PC is ready for Windows 11, click in the Search box on the Taskbar, then type health in the search box. Under Best match, select and open PC Health Check App. Once the app opens, click the Check Now button under Introducing Windows 11.
If your PC meets Windows 11 requirements, go to Windows Updates to upgrade your Windows 10 computer.
To get there on Windows 10, click Start menu > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Updates > Check for updates. Select Download and Install under Upgrade to Windows 11.

Check Windows 10 upgrade eligibility
Before you can upgrade to Windows 11, your PC must meet Windows 11 minimum requirements. A PC Health Check app should now be installed on your Windows 10 computer to help you find out if your PC meets the requirements.
In Windows 10, click in the Windows Search box on the Taskbar, then type health, under Best match, select and open the PC Health Check app.
Under Introducing Windows 11, click the Check now button.
This app will tell you whether you can upgrade to Windows 11.
How to upgrade to Windows 11
As mentioned above, you can upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows 10 for free. If you Windows 10 computer meets Windows 11 requirements, simply go to Windows Updates and begin to upgrade.
On Windows 10, click the Start button, then select the Settings (cog icon) as shown below.
On the Windows Settings window, click the Update & Security category as highlighted below.
Then select Windows Updates and click the Check for updates button. If the Windows 11 update is available, Feature update to Windows 11 is displayed.
Select Download and install.
Once Windows 11 is downloaded, restart your computer when prompted. After downloading Windows 11 and restarting, Windows 11 Setup will download additional files to install.
Click Next to continue.
On the next windows, select the files, settings, and apps you want to keep, and then choose Next.
After that select Install to begin Windows 11 installation on your computer. This might take a while depending on the speed and connection settings of your computer. After that, Windows 11 should be installed.
Once the upgrade is complete, sign into the new Windows 11 with your credentials on the sign in windows.
That should do it!
