How to Uninstall Apps in Windows 11

This post shows students and new users how to uninstall, remove or delete apps and programs in Windows 11.

The just released preview of Windows 11 comes with a new user desktop and some cool features, including centered Start menu and taskbar, rounded corners windows, themes and colors that will make any Windows device looks and performs great.

Windows 11 apps are similar to previous versions. You can install and uninstall similarly.

There are two types of apps that are installed on Windows 11 systems: Desktop apps and Windows apps. Windows apps are those that are installed traditionally like running an executable and running through an installation wizard until the app is installed. Desktop apps are those that are installed from the Windows store.

Also, Windows apps are installed on the main system disk and are available to everyone user on the system. When you uninstall Windows apps, they get uninstalled from the entire system. Unlike Windows apps, Desktop apps are installed in users profiles and are uninstalled users on the system, although some may still be installed in the core systems.

Traditionally apps like Adobe Reader and similar are Windows apps. Desktop apps are those from Windows store like weather apps, and few others that are installed in user profiles.

To get stated with uninstalling apps from Windows 11, follow the steps below:

How to Remove Apps from Windows 11

Windows 11 has a centralized location for majority of its settings. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from its System Settings pane.

To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + i shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings as shown in the image below:

Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and search for Settings. Then select to open it.

Windows Settings pane should look similar to the image below. In Windows Settings, click Apps, select Apps & features on the right pane of your screen shown in the image below.

On the Apps & features settings pane, under App list, you will see a list of apps that are installed and running on the system. Scroll down and list to see all.

And scroll down the list to the apps you wish to uninstall, then click the three vertical dots as highlighted in the imge below and select Uninstall.

How to Uninstall Windows Apps from Control Panel

Windows Control Panel had been the primary settings pane for Windows apps, features and configuration settings. Until now, that’s where one go to setup Windows advanced settings.

It can still be used to uninstall apps from Windows.

To get to Windows Control Panel, click on the Start button and use the search box to search for Control Panel as highlighted below:

When the Control Panel app opens, go to Programs in the Control Panel. Then click Programs (Uninstall a program) as shown in the image below.

Next select the program you wish to uninstall or remove and click the Uninstall/Change link highlighted. You can also right-click on the apps and select Uninstall/Change.

Follow the uninstall wizard until you’re done.

How to Remove Desktop apps

Desktop apps can also be uninstalled or removed from the Start menu. Simply right-click the desktop apps you want to remove and select Uninstall.
