How to Turn Bluetooth On or Off in Windows 11

This post shows students and new users how to enable or disable Bluetooth in Windows 11 to connect or disconnect from nearby devices.

By now you probably know a thing or two about Bluetooth. If not, here’s a brief overview; Bluetooth is a wireless technology that allows your computers, smart phone and mobile devices to connect to other Bluetooth enabled devices nearby.

With Bluetooth connections, you can stream music, send data and communicate with nearby devices wirelessly with ease. There are multiple ways to turn on or off Bluetooth on your computers. Some computers come with a dedicated Bluetooth button that sits on top of the keyboard area, and/or on either side of the computer.

The physical Bluetooth switch on your computer allows you to quickly turn off or turn on your Bluetooth device. There’s also another way to turn off Bluetooth from Windows 11, and we’ll show you how to do that as well.

The new Windows 11, when released generally to everyone, will come with many new features and enhancements that will work great for some while adding some learning challenges for others. Some things and settings have changed so much that folks will have to learn new ways to work with and manage Windows 11.

Disabling and enabling Bluetooth in Windows 11 is something that hasn’t changed much. Similar to other versions of Windows, the process is still the same.

To get started with disabling and enabling Bluetooth connections in Windows 11, follow the steps below:

How to turn off or on Bluetooth on Laptop

As we mentioned above, there’s are multiple ways to turn on or turn off Bluetooth on Windows 11. One way is using your computer Bluetooth button.

If your laptop is equipped with a physical Bluetooth button, you can quickly turn on or off Bluetooth device simply by toggling the button to the On or Off position or tapping it to disable or enable.

How to turn on or off Bluetooth on Windows 11

If your computer does not have a physical Bluetooth switch or button, then you can turn off or on Bluetooth in Windows 11. Windows 11 shows your apps icons on the taskbar in the notification area.

There, you can see icon for volume, network, Bluetooth and few others. The taskbar should look similar to the one below:

If you don’t see the Bluetooth signal icon on the taskbar, simply press the Windows key + A on your keyboard to show Windows Quick settings.

The Quick action settings pane will appear. On the settings, click Bluetooth option on the list of settings to open the Bluetooth pairing settings.

When the Bluetooth connection shows up, click the Disconnect to disconnect from the Bluetooth pairing.

To connect to a Bluetooth, use the same icon on the taskbar show above. Then when a list of nearby Bluetooth show up, select the one you want to pair to.

How to disable or enable Bluetooth in Windows 11

In some situations, you may want to completely disable Bluetooth in Windows, and not just disconnect. You can do that via Windows System settings pane.

Windows 11 has a centralized location for majority of its settings. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from the System Settings pane.

To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + i shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings as shown in the image below:

In the System setting pane, select Bluetooth & devices. From there you can quickly disable and enable Bluetooth by toggling the button to the On or Off position.

Another way to enable or enable Bluetooth devices in Windows 11 is from the Device Manager settings.

To get to Device Manager, click on Start and search for “Device Manager“. The select from the relevant result.

In Device Manager, find the Bluetooth adapter on the list of devices attached to your Windows computer. Then right-click the Bluetooth device either enable or disable.

That will turn off the Bluetooth in Windows 11. You can now exit the settings pane and you’re done.
