How to Repair Apps and Programs in Windows 11

This post shows students and new users steps to repair apps and programs in Windows 11. Windows allows users to repair apps and programs that are not running correctly. When you repair an app, its settings configurations and other apps data are refreshed.

During the repair process, Windows will backup your settings, preferences and changes you’ve made to the apps. Once the repair is done, Windows then restores the changes and settings prior to the repair.

Note: In some cases, settings and changes you’ve made will be lost when Windows repairs the apps. Also, not all apps and programs will provide options to repair, change, or modify them.

How to repair apps and programs in Windows 11

As mentioned above, Windows allows you to repair apps and programs that are not running correctly. When you repair an app, its settings configurations and other apps data are refreshed.

There two types of apps that one can install in Windows 11. Each type has its own ways or repairing and resetting.

Repair options from the Settings page

Select Start  > Settings  > Apps > Apps & features.

You should now see a list of all the desktop programs currently installed on your computer. Scroll through the list and select the program you want to repair.

Select the More (ellipses) icon next to the app you want to fix.

Select the Advanced options link under the name of the app (some apps don’t have this option).

On the page that opens, select Repair if it’s available. If it isn’t available or doesn’t fix the problem, select Reset.

Repair options from the Control Panel

One can also reset apps and programs from the Control Panel. In the search box on the taskbar, type control panel and select Control Panel from the results.

Select Programs Programs and Features.

You should now see a list of all the desktop programs currently installed on your computer. Scroll through the list and select the program you want to repair.

Right-click the program you want to fix and select Repair, or if that’s not available, select Change.

Then follow the directions on the screen.
