How to Move Windows 11 Taskbar to the Top

This post shows students and new users how to move the taskbar in Windows 11 to the top of the desktop screen.

In previous versions of Windows, one could drag and drop the taskbar to different sides on the screen. That taskbar mobility has gone with Windows 11. However, there’s still a way to get your taskbar to the top of the screen if you want to do that, but it takes to some to get it done.

The new Windows 11 comes with many cool features and refreshing new graphical interface, including centered Start menu and taskbar, rounded corners windows, themes and colors that make any Windows device stand out.

The steps below should be done with care. If you haven’t backup your computer, please do before attempting the to modify Windows registry.

Also, when you’re a student and new user and you want to learn how to use Windows, the easiest place to start is Windows 11. Windows 11 is a major release of the Windows NT operating system developed by Microsoft. Windows 11 is the successor to Windows 10 and it’s expected to be released later this year.

To get started moving Windows 11 taskbar to the top of the screen, follow the steps below:

Put Windows Taskbar on Top

Before implementing the steps below, please backup Windows. Modifying Windows registry isn’t for the faint of heart. If you make a mistake in the registry, it could make your system unstable.

When you’re ready, use the keyboard shortcut Windows key + R to launch the Run dialog. Then type: regedit and hit Enter or click OK.

When the Registry Editor opens, navigate to the following path. You can simply copy and paste the following into the box at the top and hit Enter:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\StuckRects3​

Once you navigate to the path above, double click the highlighted Settings name to open its binary content.

Find the column FE, row 00000008. The value will be set to 03 by default. Replace the highlighted 03 with 01. When you’re done, the binary content should look like this.

Click OK to save your changes.

Restart your computer for the changes to apply. Once you log back in, you should see the taskbar moved to the top of the screen.
