This post shows students and new users how to configure Windows notifications to stay up longer. By default, a notification only stay up for 5 seconds and then closes. Well, you can change that using the steps below.
You get notifications in Windows 11 at the bottom right corner of the main display if you have multiple displays. All notifications will stay open for 5 seconds, and automatically close to the notification center where you can access them later and take actions.
If you’re like me who doesn’t read fast enough, you might want to keep the notification up a bit longer – maybe say 60 seconds? You can keep notifications up for 5 mins which is the max. If you can’t read it in 5 mins, then maybe this tutorial isn’t for you. LOL.
The new Windows 11, when released to the general public will come with many new features and enhancements that will work great for some while adding some learning challenges for others. Some things and settings have changed so much that folks will have to learn new ways to work with and manage Windows 11.
To get started with configuring Windows notifications, follow the steps below:
How to keep Windows 11 notification up longer
As mentioned above, notifications only stay up for 5 seconds. For slow readers, this might be a problem. To keep it up longer, go to the settings below to change it.
Windows 11 has a centralized location for majority of its settings. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from the System Settings pane.
To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + i shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings as shown in the image below:
Alternatively, you can use the Search box on the taskbar and search for Settings. Then select to open it.
Windows Settings pane should look similar to the image below. In Windows Settings, click Accessibility, and Visual effects on the right pane of your screen shown in the image below.
On the Visual effects sittings pane, change how long notification are dismissed. You can change the amount of time for dismissal up to 5 mins.
Close out of the settings pane when you’re done.
The next notification will stay open for the amount the time you chose above.
