This post shows students and new users steps to install, use and uninstall Windows Wireless Display app in Windows 11. The Windows Wireless Display app allows for devices to mirror or project their screens to Windows wirelessly.
If you want to view content from other supported devices wirelessly on your Windows machine, you will have to enable mirroring so that those devices can project to your Windows 11 PC.
Windows 11 does not allow other devices to project to it by default. In order for devices to cast or project to Windows 11, one must install and enable Windows Wireless Display app. The steps below show you how to install Windows Wireless Display app in Windows 11.
Windows also supports multiple technologies that allow users to connect to a wireless display, including Miracast and WiGig.
When using Miracast or another supported technology, you can wirelessly connect your Windows PC to a TV, projector, another PC, or other kind of external display that supports Miracast. WiGig will let you connect with a WiGig dock.
So install Windows Wireless Display app to allow devices to project to your Windows machine. However, Windows can also project its display to external devices using Miracast and WiGig by default.
How to install Windows Wireless Display app in Windows 11
As mentioned above, Windows Wireless Display app allows for devices to mirror or project their screens to Windows wirelessly.
Below is how to install the app.
Windows 11 has a centralized location for majority of its settings. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from its Settings app.
To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + i shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings as shown in the image below:
Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and search for Settings. Then select to open it.
Windows Settings pane should look similar to the image below. In Windows Settings, click Apps> Optional features tile to expand it.
On the Apps > Optional features settings pane, select the tile for Add an optional feature. Then click the View features button as highlighted below.
On pop up window, use the search box and search for Wireless Display. Then check the box next to the app, and click Next.
On the next screen, click Install to install Windows Wireless Display app.
You can now close Windows Settings app if you like.
How to use Windows Wireless Display app
Now that you have installed the Windows Wireless Display app, go to the Start > Settings > System Project to this PC.
On the Project to this PC window, choose the options:
- Available everywhere on secure networks
- Available everywhere
- Always Off (Recommended)
After that, click on the Launch the Connect app to project to this PC link. You should then be able to connect devices to Windows 11 using the information displayed on the screen.
How to uninstall Wireless Display app in Windows 11
If you wish to undo and uninstall the Wireless Display app above, simply reverse the steps above by going to Windows Settings > Apps > Optional features. Under Installed features, select Wireless Display tile to expand it.
Then click the Uninstall button to remove the Wireless Display app.
