This post shows students and new users steps to print to PDF and create or transform any document in to a PDF file. In Windows, one can print a document to PDF from any app with the built-in Microsoft Print to PDF feature.
Previously, Windows came with Print to Microsoft XPS printer by default. This was the Microsoft’s alternative to PDF. However, that didn’t last long, as Microsoft has switched to the PDF format using its built-in Microsoft PDF printer virtual printer.
So, if you want to create a PDF file format of a document, simply open the document and select Print. Then select the built-in Microsoft Print to PDF printer. It’s that simple!
If the document you wish to print is not in a file format, then open the app that you want print or export its data, then go to File ==> Print. You can also export data from app, then print it to PDF. There are many ways to print to PDF in Windows.

How to print to PDF in Windows 11
As mentioned above, one can print or create any document into PDF format using Windows built-in Print to PDF printer.
To do that, follow the steps below:
Depending on the app, you may find the Print function or go to File ==> Print.
When the Print window opens, select the Microsoft Print to PDF under the Select Printer section. Then, click the Print button to save document into PDF file format.
When you click the Print button above, Windows will quickly convert or transform into PDF format and prompt you to select a location to save the file as well as a file name you want to save as.
Looking at the windows below, you’ll File name field, default location is your Documents folder and the file Save as type will be PDF Document.
Click the Save button and you’re done.
Next, go to your Documents folder and the printed document should be saved as a PDF file. If you chose another destination to save the file, then go there to find your file.
