How to Change Languages in Windows 11

This post shows students and new users how to change user’s display language preference in Windows 11.

The new Windows 11 comes with many cool features and refreshing new graphical interface, including centered Start menu and taskbar, rounded corners windows, themes and colors that make any Windows device stand out.

One thing you can do with Windows 11 is you can change and switch language preferences. You can use Windows 11 desktop and applications in dozens of languages around the world. The translations into other languages may be incomplete and some applications may not provide full support, but the list of languages Windows 11 supports is growing.

When you change to a new language, it changes the entire Windows desktop and display language.

Any untranslated text will appear in the language the program or software was originally developed in, usually American English.

To get stated with changing Windows 11 display language, follow the steps below:

Change Windows 11 display language

Windows 11 has a centralized location for majority of its settings. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from its System Settings pane.

To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + i shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings as shown in the image below:

Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and search for Settings. Then select to open it.

Windows Settings pane should look similar to the image below. In Windows Settings, click Time & language, then select Language & region on the right pane of your screen shown in the image below.

On the Language & region settings page, click the Add a language button in the highlighted section below.

Select your preferred language from the list to install, then click Next.

On the next screen, check the box next to “Set as my Windows display language” and click Install.

Wait until Windows finishes downloading and installing the language pack. Once the download is complete, you’ll have to sign out and log back in for the changes to take effect.

Once you log back in, Windows display language should be set to your preferred.

If you want to install keyboard settings for your preferred language, click the language option highlighted in the image below.

On the Language options settings page, click Add a keyboard. The keyboard layout should go along with your preferred language selected above.

If Windows can’t automatically install the language packs you selected, you will have to manually download and install it in Windows.

There are some folders in your home folder for things like music, pictures, and documents. These folders use standard names according to your language. When you log back in, these folders will be renamed to the standard names for your selected language.
