This post shows students and new users steps to change display language in Windows 11. The display language you select changes the default language used by Windows features like Settings and File Explorer.

When you are installing Windows on your device, you are given an option to select your preferred installation language. When you do, Windows uses your preferred language for Windows features like Settings and File Explorer.

After installing Windows, you can also install additional language packs to add to your list of Windows display languages. Language packs can include features to support text-to-speech, speech recognition, handwriting, keyboard, optical character recognition and more.

In order to change your display language you should have multiple preferred languages installed. Once you have additional language and language packs installed, you can then change your display language to another.

As mentioned above, the display language you select changes the default language used by Windows features like Settings and File Explorer. You can have multiple preferred languages installed on your Windows device.

If you have multiple languages installed, you can change your display language to another language.

Below is how to do that.

Windows 11 has a centralized location for majority of its settings. From system configurations to creating new users and updating Windows, all can be done from the System Settings pane.

To get to System Settings, you can use the Windows key + i shortcut or click on Start ==> Settings as shown in the image below:

Alternatively, you can use the search box on the taskbar and search for Settings. Then select to open it.

Windows Settings pane should look similar to the image below. In Windows Settings, click Time & language, then on the right pane, and select the Language & region tile to expand it.

On the Language & region settings pane, under Language section, select the Windows display language tile, and click a language from the drop down menu to change to.

When you switch your display language, Windows will prompt you to Sign out in order for the changes to apply.

Log out of your Windows session and log back in to see your new display language settings.
