There may be some issues with how much blue light your desktop screen emits and how it may cause issues with your eyes down the road. The blue light your computer monitor emits can also contributes to sleeplessness and eye strain after dark.
Ubuntu comes with a feature called Night Light that may help you resolve some of the eye issues you may be experiencing at night in front of your screen. Night Light also changes the colors displayed on your screen into warmer versions of themselves.
This brief tutorial shows students and new users how to enable Night Light with using Ubuntu desktops.To get started with enabling Ubuntu Night Light feature, follow the steps below:
- Open the Activities overview and start typing Settings.
- Click on Settings.
- Click Devices in the sidebar.
- Click Displays in the sidebar to open the panel.
- Click Night Light to open the settings.
- Set the Night Light switch to ON. The screen color will follow the sunset and sunrise times for your location. Click the Manual button to set the times to a custom schedule.
That should enable Night Light features.
You can also quicky open the Settings menu at the top right corner of your screen. then navigate to Devices –> Displays –> Night Light
Turn the Night Light switch to ON to enable the feature. doing that will open the Night Light pane for you to configure more settings.
You can select a schedule that suit your needs.
Exit and your changes will be saved.
The Sunset to Sunrise option automatically warms the temperature of your computer monitor after sunset. Again, this makes the display easier on your eyes and reduces eye strains.
If you find yourself working late at night and feeling your eye being strained, you may want to enable this feature. It may come in handy, especially for late night owls.
