To install Eclipse on Ubuntu, follow the steps below:

Step 1: Install Java JDK 10

Install Oracle Java JDK 10 on Ubuntu 16.04 / 17.10 / 18.04 via PPA

Step 2: Install Eclipse Photon Edition via Snap

Now that Java is installed, continue with the steps below to install Eclipse via Snap….. Snaps are containerised software packages that are simple to create and install… It’s a new way to manage packages on Linux systems and is supported by the top Linux distributions…

To install Eclipse Photon edition on Ubuntu 18.04, run the commands below…

sudo apt install snapd
sudo snap install --classic eclipse

After install Eclipse, go to the Activities Overview and search for Eclipse… then select and launch it.. This should do it for you.
